Miami’s doxx.net Raises $38M for Private AI Networks

Miami’s tech scene picked up another headline-grabbing funding round this week. doxx.net, a Miami-based startup building private network infrastructure for both people and AI agents, announced a $38 million Series A led by venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Miami’s own ANIMO Ventures and Focal.vc.

The company, founded by cybersecurity veteran Barrett Lyon and COO Nicolai Bezsonoff, calls its product “Agentic Defined Networking” — a private, peer-to-peer communications layer that gives users and AI agents their own secure network, complete with private IP space, a dedicated DNS root, and its own certificate authority. The pitch is straightforward: as AI agents increasingly handle logins, payments, and personal data on people’s behalf, the existing internet wasn’t built with that kind of machine-to-machine trust in mind. doxx.net’s approach bakes privacy into the network’s architecture itself, rather than relying on policies or permissions that can be bypassed.

Lyon isn’t new to this space. He has built and sold several security companies before, including Prolexic (acquired by Akamai) and Defense.Net (acquired by F5), giving the new venture some built-in credibility with investors. Since opening its closed beta in December, the platform has reportedly blocked more than 38 million attempted threats, and it’s now available in open beta across iOS, macOS, Android, Windows, and Linux — notably without requiring an email address, phone number, or password to get started.

For Miami, the raise is another data point in the city’s ongoing case for itself as a legitimate AI and cybersecurity hub, not just a finance and real estate town. Deals like this bring capital, engineering jobs, and investor attention that ripple outward to the broader local business community — more hiring, more office leases, and more downstream spending at Miami-area vendors, restaurants, and service providers who support a growing tech workforce.

Local businesses looking to plug into that growth, or simply get discovered by the people working at companies like doxx.net, don’t need venture capital to get started. Are you a local entrepreneur? List your business on Miami Business Web today.
