Ella’s Coffee House Expands to Fort Lauderdale

South Florida’s independent coffee scene just got a new address. Ella’s Coffee House, the small-batch roaster that built a loyal following in Plantation, Coral Springs, Davie, and Boynton Beach, is opening a new café at 1520 N Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale, according to the restaurant-industry trade publication What Now.

The expansion marks Ella’s fifth standalone South Florida location, not counting its outpost inside Hard Rock Stadium, and signals continued confidence in Broward County’s appetite for homegrown coffee concepts even as national chains compete for the same stretch of Federal Highway.

What sets Ella’s apart from larger competitors is its commitment to doing almost everything in-house. The company roasts and grinds its own beans on site, hand-mixes its flavored syrups rather than buying them pre-made, and bakes its own pastry case daily. Customers can also buy bagged versions of Ella’s signature blends to brew at home, turning each café into something closer to a neighborhood roastery than a typical quick-service coffee counter.

For Fort Lauderdale, the opening adds another independent option to a corridor that has seen steady commercial turnover in recent years. Local coffee shops and small food-and-beverage concepts have increasingly used expansion into adjacent Broward and Miami-Dade markets as a way to grow without the overhead of a full franchise rollout, and Ella’s trajectory — from a single Plantation café to five-plus locations across the region — fits that pattern.

It’s also a reminder of how much of South Florida’s day-to-day business activity happens outside the headline-grabbing tech funding rounds and corporate relocations: a coffee shop deciding where to put its next storefront is a small decision, but multiplied across dozens of local operators, it’s what actually shapes Main Street in Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, and the rest of Broward County.
